Our Story
ScrapTrade was born in Hobart, Tasmania, out of a frustration familiar to anyone in the scrap industry: too many deals done over the phone, too much opacity around pricing, and too many small sellers left out of the global market entirely. Our founders had spent years in industrial procurement and recycling, watching billions of dollars in recoverable material sit idle or get sold at a fraction of its value because the right buyer simply couldn't be found in time.
The global scrap trade is worth over USD 80 billion per year, yet it remains one of the most fragmented and manually-operated industries on earth. Deals are brokered through personal networks, prices are quoted verbally, and there is almost no recourse for buyers who receive material that doesn't match what was described. We set out to fix that — not just for Australia, but for the world.
Today, ScrapTrade connects verified sellers across 50+ countries with buyers ranging from small recyclers to large industrial manufacturers. Our platform handles the entire transaction — listing creation, price negotiation, secure payment via Stripe, and dispute resolution — so both sides can focus on what matters: trading confidently and profitably.
